Settlement Reached in E-Book Class Actions

TORONTO, August 29, 2022 /CNW/ —

To all people in Canada who purchased eBooks in Canada Between April 1, 2010 and March 10, 2017.

PROPOSED SETTLEMENT OF LAWSUITS
Class action lawsuits have been filed against Apple Inc. and Apple Canada Inc. and certain e-book publishers, alleging the price of e-books sold in Canada Between April 1, 2010 and March 10, 2017was artificially high because they conspired to fix, maintain, increase or control the price of e-books, were settled with Apple subject to court approval of Ontario and Quebec.

THE SETTLEMENT CLASS
If the proposed settlement is approved, the members of the settlement class will be all persons Canada who purchased eBooks in Canada Between April 1, 2010 and March 10, 2017, except for those opting out of the actions, the defendants and certain related parties. Under the proposed settlement, members of the settlement class RELEASE Apple and publishers of complaints regarding the purchase of eBooks in Canada Between April 1, 2010 and March 10, 2017and agree to discontinue or dismiss further suits.

DISTRIBUTION OF SETTLEMENT PROCEEDS
If the proposed settlement with Apple is approved, the net proceeds of the settlement will be combined with the net proceeds of the settlement from a prior settlement with the publishers and distributed to members of the settlement class pursuant to the terms of a distribution protocol to be approved by the courts.
