P. Chidambaram’s son is already under investigation for Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance for INX media
The CBI has filed a new complaint against Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, for allegedly facilitating the visa of 250 Chinese nationals after receiving an illegal gratuity of ₹50 lakh, have officials announced Tuesday.
The CBI began coordinated search operations Tuesday morning at nine locations in several cities across the country, including Karti Chidambaram’s residence in Chennai, they said.
The research is being conducted at three locations in Chennai, three in Mumbai, one each in Karnataka, Punjab and Odisha, they added.
“I lost count, how many times? It must be a record,” tweeted Mr. Karti without specifying.
In the new case which stems from an ongoing investigation, the CBI has alleged that Karti Chidambaram received an alleged ₹50 lakh bribe to facilitate the visa of 250 Chinese nationals under the UPA regime, have officials said.
It is already under investigation for clearance from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) for INX media, they said.
